After much anticipation Clear was released yesterday. In it’s simplest form, Clear is a task list manager. At it’s highest, it is a clean, intuitive and fun task list manager. That’s right, it just a task list manager. Taking nothing away from the design and how easy it is to swipe through creating, deleting and checking off your tasks, the app is still a very simplistic task list.

Pros:

Simple
Clean design
Innovative way of managing tasks
Fun
Currently on sale for $.99 in the App Store

Cons:

Simple (That’s right, it is also a Con.)
No syncing with other devices
No syncing with desktop
No reminders (Almost the main reason why people need a task list)

I believe a lot of these Cons will be addressed in some fashion. For this product to be successful and relevant they would need to be. However, I believe the attraction to this product is the simplicity and the fun they have made out of managing your tasks. Because of this, the developers may decide not to build in these features into the app, as it may take away from it’s appeal.

Having seen and used MANY different apps like this on both the iOS and platform, this app is not even close to the bottom of the pack. Go pick it up and check it out, it’s currently $.99 - which is less then most packs of gum!

I realize it may be a bit strange to some, that someone would write about a mans death without knowing that person personally, but that’s exactly what this is.

It’s hard to express my feelings regarding the passing of a man that I didn’t know personally. But, like many others today, when I heard the announcement of Steve Job’s death, I immediately felt sad. A real sadness.

I grew up using Apple computers in school, briefly worked for a company that built software specific for Apple computers in high school and couldn’t wait to own an Apple device of my own. There was just something different about these products, even the Macs that most of us would use in school like the Mac SE. The design, the simplicity, the ability to help you be more creative and successful just by using that device. Sadly, I grew up in very humble means so the opportunity to own an Apple product was not something that was possible. That didn’t stop the hunger though. It was my golden ticket. Years later I bought my first Apple product and it honestly was a feeling I can’t describe in words. To want something for so long and to be able to finally have it was amazing. Then I bought my next Apple product, then my next and my next….and so it goes for so many of us Apple “Fanboys”.

There is truly something about these products that hits an emotional connection with you. The packaging, the sleek lines of the hardware, to the software that is so well thought and implemented that many have tried to replicate and have been unsuccessful. I can’t think of another device I have ever owned in my life that I feel this way about. This is the core of what I feel Steve Jobs and Apple strive to achieve.

I am happy that in my lifetime, I was able to see and be a part of an era where such change and innovation was possible because of such a revolutionary thinker. Someone who designed products with the person that would be using them in mind. A man that pushed for the best from his employees and in turn gave us all these wonderful products that we now have and use daily.

Today I am sad because we have lost a great man of vision. Steve Jobs, you will be missed.
